Mark 10:49-50, “And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him here”, and they called to the blind man, saying to him “Take courage, arise! He is calling for you”. And casting aside his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus.” Growing up we had a phone hanging on our kitchen wall. When it rang, we would rush over to pick it up. There was no caller ID. We didn’t know who was calling. Maybe we gave our phone number to a friend and was waiting for the friend to call. We just knew it was important to answer the phone when it rang. Then the answering machine came about and if we missed a call, we could hear who had tried to call. We could then decide if we needed to call the person back. Nowadays, everyone has a cell phone. The caller ID comes up and we can choose to answer it or send it to voicemail. I miss the days we didn’t know who was calling. The excitement of being the first to answer the phone. The anticipation that it might be for me. In Mark 10:46-48, the blind man Bartimaeus was sitting by the road and heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene coming down the road and began to cry out “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me. Many in the crowd were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying all the more. Jesus stopped and said, “Call him here” and they called to the blind man saying “Take courage, arise! He is calling for you.” The blind man jumped up cast aside his cloak and came to Jesus. Have we become numb or insensitive to Jesus calling us? Do we ignore the call or send it to voicemail to listen to later? The blind man didn’t hesitate, he jumped up and came to Jesus. We need to be listening to the Spirit within us and waiting eagerly for Jesus to call, to direct us in our path. We must not see 3 missed calls. In our walk with Christ, we need to rush to pick up the call, to be eagerly waiting. Psalm 130:5-6 “I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait and, in His word, do, I hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchman for the morning. Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning.” Jesus is calling to us. Will we answer His call?
