2 Corinthians 2:14-17, “But thanks be to God who always leads us in His triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things? For we are not like many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.” We can think of many smells that are pleasing; freshly baked bread, brewing coffee, freshly mown grass, the smells after rainfall. These aromas can be pleasing to our nostrils. When I read this passage, I wonder if how I am walking in my Christian life is pleasing to God. Am I walking in a sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place? Am I not like those who peddle the word of God, but present it with sincerity? Do my words and actions speak of Christ? Am I a fragrance of Christ to others? Is my walk in life presenting to others what God offers? When you smell the distinct smell of coffee brewing you know what it is. Does the aroma around me let others know God or is it mixed up so that others can’t identify it? I watched a program on T.V. where people were blindfolded and had to guess what they were given to eat. It was interesting to see how without sight, familiar things didn’t taste like what the people thought they were eating. The items were blended up so that the person could not guess it was an apple by the crunch for example. This passage made me think about the aroma I am giving to others. Is it a sweet aroma of Christ that leads them to seek the source? Lord, help me to have the distinct aroma in every place of Christ Jesus.
A sweet aroma of life
