Psalm 23:2, “He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside quiet waters.” When I read this scripture verse my mind drifts to seeing a place where life’s problems can no longer consume my thoughts. He makes me lie down. God is showing us in this verse a place that provides peace. Beside the still waters. Have you thought the storms would never end in your life? There are times it seems we have one struggle after another. The scripture says, He makes us lie down in green pastures. Psalm 23 starts with “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.” Psalm 23 is about trust. Trusting God is watching over us and will provide our every need. Green pastures, peace from all worries. Still waters, calmness from all storms. In Luke 8:22-25, Jesus and the disciples got in a boat to go to the other side of the lake. As they were sailing along, Jesus slept. A fierce gale of wind descended, and they began to be swamped and in danger. The disciples panicked and went to Jesus to wake Him. They said to Him “Master, we are perishing.” Jesus rebuked the wind and surging water, and they stopped, and it became calm. Jesus said to them “Where is your faith?” Are you in a panic in your life? The disciples went to Jesus. They wanted Him to know what was going on right then. Jesus was asleep. Did they not think He wasn’t aware of the wind and waves? We often think God isn’t aware of our needs. We have only to go to Him and He will calm the storms. Jesus rebuked the wind and surging water, and they stopped. Verse 25 of Luke 8 says they were fearful and amazed saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands and even the winds and the water, and they obey Him? Psalm 23:2, He makes them lie down in green pastures. He leads them beside still waters.” We can hold onto this scripture when life brings us storms. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Trust in God is knowing that He calms the storms. He watches over us as a shepherd. He leads us beside still waters. Where is our faith? When we hear the Shepherd’s voice, we know He will provide for us in all ways. We can be amazed that at His command the storms obey Him. He leads us beside the still waters.
