Proven character

Romans 5:3-6, “And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” James 1:2-4, “Consider it all joy my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have it’s perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” Perseverance is continuing with a goal despite challenges, difficulties, or setbacks. James 1:2 says “when” you encounter various trials, not if you encounter various trials. Everyone will encounter trials in their life. Romans 5:2 says we should be extremely joyful (exult) in our great distresses (tribulations). Why would someone rejoice in their distress? The reason is explained in the verses that follow. It is the understanding that tribulations, brings about perseverance, which is continuing to the goal. Continuing is not giving up, “when” various trials happen. Perseverance brings proven character. Proven character emerges and is solidified through the testing and tribulations. Proven character brings about hope. Romans 5:5 tells us, “and hope does not disappoint (fail), because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts.” Deuteronomy 31:6 says, “Be strong and of good courage, fear not, don’t be afraid of them, for the Lord thy God is with thee, He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” I was never strong in math, but simple addition is something everyone understands. Tribulations=perseverance. Perseverance=proven character. Proven character=hope. The sum of all these, equal a God who does not fail or forsake me. It adds up to victory. Now I understand why we should be extremely joyful in our tribulations. The answer is God.

We should always be thankful, even during the trying times. It’s hard to remember to always count on God. God is the way
