Ephesians 6:17, “And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.” When Jesus was in the wilderness for forty days, Satan came to him to tempt him. Jesus’s weapon against the devil was the word of God. It is written He told the devil. That stopped each of the enemy’s tactics. Jesus had fasted for forty days and forty nights. The devil saw an opportunity, so he came to Him and said, “If you are the Son of God command these stones to become bread.” Jesus used His weapon. “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” Deuteronomy 8:3. The enemy tried again with his arrow of doubt. “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written “He shall give His angels charge concerning You and, on their hand, they shall bear You up lest You strike Your foot against a stone.” Notice how the devil shifted his tactics. Have you heard the enemy whispering this in your ear. “If God loved you, you would not be suffering or in this trial.” The devil tries to use God’s word against us. But again, Jesus used His weapon saying, “On the other hand, it is written, “You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.” Deuteronomy 6:16. The devil then tried a different tactic, showing Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and their glory and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.” Deuteronomy 6:13, 10:20. Our arsenal against every weapon the enemy brings against us is the word of God. There is a never-ending supply available for us to defeat the devil. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Isaiah 54:17 tells us, “No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication is from Me, declares the Lord.” We may be in a battle right now, but God supplies us with all we need to fight the battle. The arsenal is God’s word. The war has been won. Always remember you are on the winning side.
