1 John 1:8-9, “If we say we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sin, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteous.” This verse holds so much comfort to me. The words, “He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins” tells me who is the only one that do this. John goes on in Chapter 2 to explain this truth, 1 John 2:1-2, “My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.” We have an Advocate!! Jesus Christ the righteous. He Himself is the one who is the propitiation for our sins. What does that mean? Propitiation is the act of gaining or regaining the favor or goodwill of someone. Jesus Christ is the One that advocates for us. He who is righteous. He is the one who speaks up for us. The One who gave Himself as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. Those words John wrote “If anyone sins, we have an Advocate” are words of a promise. 1 John 2:12 says, “I am writing to you little children, because your sins are forgiven you, for His Name’s sake.” Remember this when the enemy wants to convince you that your sins can’t be forgiven. He tries to tell you God won’t forgive you. Just as Jesus quoted God words, “It is written” when the devil tried to tempt Him, we too can say “It is written”, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the One standing for us. The One who took our place, the perfect sacrifice to God. “He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” My Advocate! Colossians 2:13-14 says, “And when you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having cancelled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which were hostile to us and He has taken it out of the way having nailed it to the cross.” My Advocate, Jesus Christ.
