2 Thessalonians 3:3, “But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” A storm ripped through our area in June. It knocked down power lines outside of town and laid flat the cornfields. As we were driving to Terre Haute later that day, we saw the damage caused by the storm. Our power was out and workers from the power company were on the scene at the area where the power lines were down. I looked at all the acres of corn flattened and wondered if the crop was lost. The storm came through and wreaked havoc. I will never forget the next day it was sunny, and we passed those same cornfields. The crops were now upright, no longer flattened. I was amazed at the resilience of the corn. The day before flattened and now they were standing up as if the storm had not happened. Renewed by the sun. Proverbs 24:16 says “For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, but the wicked stumble in time of calamity.” As I think now of that day, I remember the verse in Proverbs and 2 Thessalonians and realize that our strength comes from God who is faithful and will strengthen us from the evil one. What on first appearance seemed a lost crop was actually a crop waiting for the strength the sun could provide to help them stand. It’s almost harvest time for that corn. They survived the storm. The storm was strong, but the sun was stronger. When you are experiencing something in your life that seems as though it may break you, remember where your strength comes from. Remember the Son!
