Psalm 124:1-5, “Had it not been the Lord who was on our side”, Let Israel now say, “Had it not been the Lord who was on our side”, when men rose up against us; then they would have swallowed us alive, When their anger was against us; then the waters would have engulfed us, the stream would have swept away our soul; Then the raging waters would have swept away our soul.” To God be the glory. How many of us can say, “Had it not been the Lord who was on our side?” Where would we now be? I give God all the glory for His rescue of my life. I don’t want to even think about where I might be if not for God’s grace. I can relate to these verses. “Had it not been the Lord by my side”. So many times in my life, I have witnessed God’s hand move. I have seen the miracle of healing, the deliverence of someone possessed by a demon. I have seen the impossible become possible right before my eyes. These passages remind me of the rescue of my soul. In Psalm 124:6-8, David writes, “Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us to be torn by their teeth. Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the trapper. The snare is broken and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Romans 8:31 tells us, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Paul says in verse 35 of Romans 8, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or sword?” No, in all these things, we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. Our help comes from God who, “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people, from this time forth and forever.” (Psalm 125:2) Never forget that God is on your side. That nothing can separate you from His love. That He surrounds His people from the time you accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour until forever. “Had it not been for the Lord, who is on our side.”
