Hebrews 11:6, “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because everyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Everyone needs oxygen to breath. Water and nourishment are needed for the body to survive. It is said that the brain and heart are organs vital for life. The Bible says without faith it is impossible to please God. At the beginning of this chapter the definition of faith is given. “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the convictions of things not seen.” My study Bible references the words, assurance and conviction, to substance and evidence. Hebrews 11:6 says anyone who comes to Him must believe He exists. It doesn’t stop there. The verse has a conjunction in it, “and”. If anyone remembers Saturday morning cartoons, School House Rock said a conjunction was a part of speech that ‘hooked up, words, phrases, and clauses of equal importance’. Let’s take another look at this verse. It says anyone who comes to Him must believe He exists, “and” of equal importance, believe He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. Without faith it is impossible to please God. There are many who believe God exists but fail to believe the rest of the verse. Hebrews 11:7 says, “By faith, Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence, prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.” You can believe God exists. But without that connecting word, AND, you are not pleasing God. The substance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen.
