2 Peter 3:17-18, “You, therefore, beloved knowing this beforehand, be on your guard lest being carried away by the error of unprincipled men, you fall from your own steadfastness but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” Peter had just described how the present heavens and earth were to be destroyed by fire and judgement to ungodly men. 2 Peter 3:8, he writes, “But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.” God in his patience is giving mankind an opportunity to come to repentance. Peter tells us to be on guard. Hold to the truth of Jesus’s words in John 10:9-11, “I am the door, if anyone enters through Me, he shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy I come that they might have life and might have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” Peter tells us to not let this one fact escape our notice, the Lord is not slow about His promise, but patient for all to know the truth. The truth that Jesus is our Shepherd and the only door to be saved. Nowadays, we hear the words “my truth” and are expected to agree and accept it. I am reminded of John 14:5-6, “Thomas said to Him, “Lord we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?””Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but through Me.” Be on your guard. Don’t get carried away by the errors of unprincipled men. Remain steadfast and grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:9 tells us, “The Lord is not slow about His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing any to perish, but for all to come to repentance.” There are many Thomases’ out there. Share the truth with them. They are looking for the truth. Romans 10:14 says, “How then will they call upon Him in whom they have not believed, and how shall they believe in whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” Be the one who shares the only Truth that truly matters.
