James 5:9, “Do not complain brethren against one another, that you yourselves may not be judged, behold the Judge is standing right at the door.” When I was a kid, the most feared words to come out of my mother’s mouth were “Wait until your father gets home.” We knew we were in big trouble. We would try to be extra behaved and nice hoping to soften up mom so she wouldn’t tell how we had misbehaved. This verse is part of our weekly Woman’s Bible study. When I read it, I thought of my youth and my mom’s words. As kids we knew better than to misbehave around our dad. The beginning of this verse tells us not to complain against one another that we ourselves may not be judged. The end of the verse is something we tend to forget. “Behold, the Judge is standing right at the door.” Our actions toward one another should always be as Jesus instructed. In John 13:34, Jesus tells us, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” 1 Peter 4:7-8 says, “The end of all things is at hand, therefore, be of sound judgement and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.” We don’t need to wait for our Father to get home, He’s already here standing right at the door.
