Isaiah 40:31, “Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.” Crows will sometimes attack eagles. But the eagle does not fight back. Instead, it flies higher than the crow can ascend. As the air gets thinner, the crow has difficulty breathing and eventually falls away. I watched a short video the other day about a crow pecking at an eagle. The eagle just sat there as the crow pecked at it. Then the eagle took flight. The crow for a moment continued pecking at the eagle, but the eagle just soared higher and suddenly the crow turned back. It could no longer keep up with eagle. This verse in Isaiah is a perfect example of how when we are waiting on God, He gives us strength to overcome. My Bible gives the meaning of “wait” as “hope in”. Just as the eagle flies higher and the crow cannot match the eagle’s flight, when we are under attack we too must mount up with wings of an eagle to higher ground. Isaiah 40:26 says, “Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these stars. The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, not one of them is missing.” Amen
