Philippians 1:6, “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you, will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12-14, “not that I have already obtained it or already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet, but one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead. I press on forward to the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” I spent five years in the Sacramento area of California. There was a roadway there that was undergoing repairs. You would see a sign as you entered this road that said, “Your tax dollars at work.” I took this road to work every day for five years, and not once did I see one construction worker. I thank God that every day I read the Bible I learn something from the scripture that reminds me of my shortcomings. His grace and mercy encourage me to continue to walk in the path of righteousness. When a project is finished, we may sit back and examine our work. It’s at this time we normally see the imperfections we overlooked. Knowing that God isn’t finished with what He started helps me to focus on His instructions. I don’t pretend to think I am finished with what God has started. But one thing I do know is that you will always see me at work doing the repairs. I don’t want to be that roadway in California, the one with the sign telling me “Your tax dollars at work”, and yet never seeing any improvements or action.
