Matthew 25:10, “and while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast and the door was shut.” So many today are going about their lives with empty lamps. The parable in Matthew 25:1-13 tells us how the kingdom of heaven is like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five were foolish and five were prudent. The five foolish did not take oil for their lamps. They may have thought they could get some in time when the bridegroom came. They thought there would be enough time to get the oil needed to light the lamp they were carrying. It tells us in Matthew 25:5-6, “Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. But at midnight there was a shout. “Behold the bridegroom! Come and meet him.” It goes on to say all ten virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. Trimming a wick keeps the light consistent and allows for a brighter light. All ten of the virgins knew what to do. Trim their lamps. However, five did not bring oil needed to light the lamps. Everyone will see the bridegroom come, but those who aren’t ready or prepared the door will shut. The five virgins thought they would have enough time to get the oil needed for their lamps, but while they were going away to get what they needed, the bridegroom came and those who were ready went with him. Are you ready?
