Ephesians 5:15-17, “Therefore, be careful how you walk, not as unwise men, but as wise making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish but understand what the will of the Lord is.” I hate walking in snow. After a snowstorm you have to clear a path to walk. You throw the salt down to melt what couldn’t be scraped up with the shovel. Though the snow is gone and the salt thrown down, I still have to be careful of patches of ice that may have formed despite my efforts. Sometimes obstacles in our way are obvious like the snow. We take them out of our way, we put down salt to melt anything that remains, but we still need to be careful in our walk. We may think we removed the obstacle and made a clear path, but if we don’t watch our footsteps, we may find ourselves falling on the ice. In Ephesians, Paul is telling the church to be care of allowing sin to enter the church. He reminds them to walk in a manner worthy of their calling. If we are careful how we walk, we see the patches of ice that may try to make us fall and avoid those areas. We may tell others be careful it’s slick right there. Being watchful of our steps means to pay attention to things that may have slipped into our lives. As I read the scriptures each day, God shows me where I need to be careful. When I am about to slip and fall, He reminds me to be careful how I walk. To pay attention, lest I allow something to distract me. We may have removed the obvious obstacles, we’ve thrown down the salt, but if we aren’t careful, the thing we don’t see in our path can make us slip and fall. Lord, help me to not be foolish, but to understand you will in my life.
