1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, know that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.” Being steadfast and immovable in the work of the Lord, Paul tells us. The meaning of steadfast is being firm in belief, determination or adherence; loyal and unwavering or firmly fixed in place, immovable and not subject to change. Paul was telling the church of Corinth this. We as Christians need to be unwavering and not subject to change when doing what God expects of us. As we look around us, we can see how some churches or preaching has changed. I was given a comparison of this in my mind to think about not long ago. I began to think of how things started to change when prayer was taken out of the schools. God showed me that like a faucet that begins to start dripping it is often ignored because we think it isn’t a big deal. It isn’t causing a lot of damage right now, so we ignore it. Soon the drip becomes a trickle. We may now notice it but still think it’s not something that needs our immediate attention. Too many other things are more important in our life. We didn’t realize that drip was causing issues behind the sink. We didn’t see the damage it was causing because we didn’t see it right away. It was in our minds a small thing, an annoyance we couldn’t be bother with at the moment. When the drip turned into a trickle, we thought maybe we needed to look more seriously at fixing it. Now we see the drip has caused damage under the sink and behind the faucet. The wood was damaged, the facet had to be removed. That little drip we didn’t address, now we had a bigger issue to repair. Not only the faucet, but under the sink and behind the sink needed to be removed and replaced. All because a little drip wasn’t fixed. We didn’t remain steadfast and unmovable in our work in the Lord. We allowed things to change. We ignored the change, even allowed it to continue. We couldn’t be bothered to fix it. At the time It wasn’t a big deal. But we didn’t see the damage it was causing behind the sink. This example reminds me how something small in my walk with the Lord if not addressed, if I am not immovable and steadfast in the work in the Lord, will become a bigger issue to fix and may have caused damage I do not see right away. Remaining steadfast and immovable in the work of the Lord is not in vain.
Be Steadfast
