1 Peter 5:6-10 “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety upon Him because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit. Be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil prowls about like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. But resist him firm in your faith, know that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself, perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.” Throughout the Bible we are shown what the mighty hand of God has done for those who trust in Him. We can read about the mouths being closed when Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den. The furnace that did not even give the smell of smoke on the clothes of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. The lame that walked. The blind given sight. The examples go on and on. Verse 7 says, “casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.” Why does God do these things for us? Because He cares for us. Peter is reminding us to humble ourselves and be on the alert. To cast all our anxiety upon God. The scripture is also telling us that our adversary the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. We are to resist him by being firm in our faith, that that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by our brethren who are in the world. Every battle faced by those who trusted in God was conquered by God’s mighty hand. There is no battle too big, no challenge to hard for us to face when we humble ourselves and put our faith in the One who loves us and cares for us. He is the God of all grace, who has called us to His eternal glory in Christ. That will, Himself, perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you, because He cares for you.
