Hebrews 6:19-20, “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast. And one which enters within the veil, where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” Our hope must be an anchor of the soul, both certain and determined to enter into heaven. The path is laid by Jesus, our forerunner. Hebrews 6:17-18, “In the same way God desiring even more to show the heirs of the promise, the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath in order that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have strong encouragement, we who have fled for refuge in laying hold of the hope set before us.” When we know that our hope is an anchor for our soul, we can feel the strength within us to weather the storms. I am sure many of us have been in situations in our life that have tried our strength to finish a task or project set before us. We started out strong, full of enthusiasm and excitement. A long-distance marathon runner knows that by pacing themselves they can reach the finish line. They know the route. It’s been laid out before them. They are given a map to direct them. It shows areas that may be difficult. Maybe it’s a hill that is coming up or a gap between water stations. They know in advance the route to take. They can pace themselves to reach the end. We may think life is not like that. We don’t know what will happen around the next bend. This is far from the truth. Jesus is our forerunner. He went ahead of us to make the path visible to us. We can see what’s ahead of us. Hope is the steps we take on this path in front of us. We know the One that made the path made it to the finish. He went ahead to show us the path to follow. If we stay on the path, we will make it to the end. When an obstacle appears on the path, we can move around it if we look to where the footsteps that went before us are showing us the way. Hope is the anchor that strengthens our soul. We can see the path before us and with each step we take, know the footsteps have had the same obstacles and made the way for us to overcome and continue on the path. Verse 18 says there are two unchangeable things, God cannot lie and when we flee for refuge, hope has been set before us. This hope is sure and steadfast and made by One who entered the veil. We are given a map with the route laid out. Knowing through every obstacle, the footsteps show us the way around. Stay on the path. Look for the way laid out. Know that it was made by our forerunner, Jesus Christ. It is sure and steadfast.
Hope, sure and steadfast
