Colossians 2:2, “Their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding to the knowledge of the mystery of God.” I read once that Jonas Salk was asked about his vaccine against polio how he viewed his 200 previous failures. His response was, “I never had 200 failures in my whole life. My family didn’t think in terms of failure. They taught in terms of experiences and what could be learned. I just made my 201 discovery, and I couldn’t have made it without learning from the previous 200 experiences.” Philippians 3:12-13, Paul writes, “Not that I have already obtained it or already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do; forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead.” The biggest lie the enemy uses to discourage us, to distract us, is we aren’t good enough or we are a failure to God. If we change our perspective to terms of experiences and reach forward to what lies ahead, we can see through the lie and press on. Psalm 139:10 says, “Your hand shall lead me, and the right hand shall hold me.” God’s hand holds us and our experiences are times of understanding His will in our life.
