Psalm 23:3, “He restores my soul; He guides me in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake.” The greatest gift that God gave us was Jesus Christ. The only one who restores our soul to God. By His death and resurrection, we have been restored. We have been made whole. No longer are we separated from God by sin. Psalm 103:12 says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” A distance so immeasurable, so infinite, so complete and total separation of our sins. 1 John 1:7 tells us, “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” We can never understand the true suffering Jesus had when dying on the cross. It can’t be understood by man. The purpose of His death is beyond comprehension. He restores my soul. Matthew 27:51 says, “And behold the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom and the earth shook and the rocks split.” The splitting of the veil restored us to God. The perfect sacrifice was made. No longer was there a separation from God. He restores my soul. I wrote that this Psalm was about trust. To put your trust in God means to believe in His reliability, His Word, His ability, and His strength. That God always keeps His promises. The promise to restore our soul was fulfilled by the sacrifice of Jesus. The tearing of the veil showed that promise. The resurrection from the grave shows us His power over death. The rest of Psalm 23:3 says, “He guides me in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake.” Jesus said in John 14:3 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, that where I am, there you may be also.” Jesus’s death was the end of the sin that separated us from God. His resurrection was the victory over death. One of my favorite verses in the Bible is found in Luke 24:5-6″and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the man said to them, “Why do you seek the living One among the dead? He is not here, but He has risen. Remember when He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee.” “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here but has risen.” Luke 24:2-3 says, “and they found the stone rolled away from the tomb but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus Christ.” He restores my soul and leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. The restoration of our soul was the death on the cross. He guides me in the path of righteousness, portrays the power of God through the resurrection. Jesus told the disciples He would go and prepare a place for them. The promise of this Psalm is He restores our souls. The promise that He guides me in the paths of righteousness, lets me know to not seek the living One among the dead. He is not there. He is still guiding us each day. When I say I serve a Living God, I recognize that by His stripes I am healed, by His blood I am saved, and by His victory over death, He continues to guide me. In Isaiah 43:1-3, “But now says the Lord, He who created you, O Jacob, He who has formed you, O Isarel, Fear not, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you, when you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Isarael your Savior…” Trust is knowing that there was victory over death and that God is a living God that will always watch over His sheep.
