Unoccupied

Matthew 12;43-45,”Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, “I will return to my house from which I come, and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go and live there, and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation.” This scripture should shake each of us. Deliverance is the sweeping out and putting in order the man. Deliverance is the action done for us. The unclean spirit knows it must leave at God’s command. This is told in Mark 1:23-25, “and just then there was in the synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, “What do we have to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know You are the Holy One of God!” And Jesus rebuked him saying, “Be quiet and come out of him.” Mark 5:12-13 tells us, “And the demons entreated Him saying “Send us into the swine, so that we may enter them. And He gave them permission. And coming out the unclean spirits entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the seat about two thousand of them and they were drowned in the sea.” So, yes, even the demons know Jesus and tremble. The word at the start of this blog I want you to focus on is “unoccupied”. The unclean spirit returned to the place which it was cast out and found it unoccupied. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us, “Be alert, and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil, walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.” God doesn’t want to be a renter of your life. He wants to be the homeowner. The one who truly looks out for it. The one who makes sure it is occupied at all times. These verses tell us very specifically it’s not the sweeping out and cleaning up that matter. It is who is occupying the home that causes the unclean spirits to flee. Who occupies your life?
