John 20:1, “Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.” Mary Magdalene was described in Luke 8:2 as a “woman, from whom seven demons had gone out.” She was the woman who wet Jesus’s feet with her tears and kept wiping them with the hair of her head and kissing His feet and anointing them with perfume.” (Luke 7:38) When the Pharisee saw this, he said to himself, if this man were a prophet he would know who and what sort of a woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner.” (Luke 7:39) Now the Pharisee said this to himself and Jesus answered him by saying in Luke 7:41-42, “A certain moneylender had two debtors, one who owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. Which of them, therefore, will love him more?” This same Mary was the one Jesus first spoke to when she came to the tomb. He said her name, Mary. (John 20:16) No matter where you are in life or what life you have led, to Jesus you matter. None of us can repay our debt and as Jesus told the Pharisee, He graciously forgave them both.
