Matthew 7:1-5 “Do not judge, lest you be judged. for in the way you judge, you will be judged and by your standards of measure, it will be measured to you. And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye. Or can you say to your brother, let me take the speck out of your eye and behold the log is in your own eye. You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.” How many times have we judged others by their way of life, or their outward appearance? God forgive us for our judgement of others. You see no one can remove the log or the speck by their own actions. We have forgotten Romans 3:23-26, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus. Jesus, who God displayed publicly as a propitiation in the blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness because the forbearance of God, He passed over our sins previously committed.” We forget it is through Christ’s sacrifice that we have been redeemed. We must understand that each and every one of us have fallen short of God’s glory. James 3:2 says, “For all stumble in many ways, if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man able to bridle the whole body as well.” It goes on to talk about the tongue being a small part of the body and yet it boasts of great things. Behold, how a great a fire is set aflame by such a small fire. James 3:9 says “But no one can tame the tongue, it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men who have been made in the likeness of God.” The log appears. James 2:12-14 says “So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty. For judgement will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy, mercy triumphs over judgement. What use is it brethren if a man says he has faith, but he has no works. Can faith save him?” Faith in Jesus Christ is the understanding that while we were yet sinners, He gave His life. 1 John 1:8-10 “if we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.” Before you reach for the speck in your brother’s eye, remove the log in yours.
