Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God and know my heart. Try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me and lead me in the everlasting way.” Prayer is coming before the Lord seeking His will. When we are asked to pray for someone, we bring the request before God for that need. Psalm 139:4 reminds us that “Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold O Lord, Thou doest know it all.” In 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 it says to “Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” We need to also come before the Lord honestly for ourselves. We need to ask God if there is any hurtful way in us. 1 Thessalonians 5:15 says “See that no one repays another with evil for evil but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all men.” Then it tells us to Rejoice always and pray with ceasing. Are we spending time in prayer for ourselves? Are we asking God if there is any hurtful way in us and lead us in the everlasting way? God knows even before a word is on our tongue. He knows the need. Do we give thanks to him for knowing what is needed even before the words come out of our mouths? Matthew 6:8 Jesus says, “Therefore do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need, before you ask of Him.” The Lord’s prayer begins with praise of who the Father is and that His will be done. Give us this day our daily bread, forgive us our debts as we have forgiven our debtors. Lead us not in temptation but deliver us from evil. “Search me O Lord and know my heart and know my anxious thoughts and see if there is any hurtful way in me.”
