Luke 5:4-7 “And when He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered and said, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but at Your bidding, I will let down the nets” And when they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and then their nets began to break and they signaled to their partners in the other boat, for them to come and help them. And they came and filled both of the boats, so that they began to sink.” What a statement this scripture has for us. Simon, when told by Jesus to let down your nets, responded with “Master we worked hard all night and caught nothing.” How like when we ask something of God. We work hard to do it ourselves. We pray for something and immediately pick it up from the altar. We take the burden and put it back on our shoulders. We petition God for deliverance then take it back. Like Simon we work hard all night casting our burdens and receive nothing. As we bring it before God, we bend and pick it up. We try to fix it ourselves. Simon knowing all he had done, all the work he put into casting his net, time after time, with no return, finally said to Jesus, “Master, at your bidding, I will let down the nets.” When they had done this, they enclosed a great number of fish. So many they had to get their partners in another boat to come and help them. The abundance of fish caught were so many their boats began to sink. In Psalm 23:5 the Bible says, “You prepare a table before me in the presences of my enemies, you anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.” The wisdom here is that when we ask God to supply our needs and not try to do it ourselves because of doubts, He supplies us more abundantly than we expected. We can go on picking up the burdens we bring to Him, try working it out on our own, or as Simon said, “Master at Your bidding, I will let down the net.”
